So you’re thinking about investing in agriculture with KrogerFarms? Good choice -- investments in agriculture provide a hedge against inflation with little to no correlation to the overall stock market, and can be an attractive diversification tool for a portfolio. The universe of agriculture investment varies widely, with various crop types, growing methods, and offering structures, each with their own risk/return profile. Take a look at the simple steps below to get started. We are more than happy to aid you in your endeavors. But first, here’s a little bit about us.
KrogerFarms is an agriculture investing platform established in 2016 and designed specifically for investing in production agriculture and agri-business. We offer investors opportunities to make an impact socially, environmentally, and economically by providing access to private placement projects in agriculture that offer premier qualities, such as sustainability.
Educate Yourself
You’ve found our blog, so continue to dig into the content here to better understand the types of agriculture opportunities our platform offers. Our media page also has an extensive list of articles and podcasts that discuss more about investing in agriculture.
Getting Started
To begin, you’ll need to register on the platform as an investor. By signing up you will be notified of agriculture investing trends, have access to our exclusive webinars, and receive important project news emails.
Once you have created your user account, you will need to construct a basic profile, including some personal information, such as your address and phone number, in order to access eligible investment opportunities. This information is stored on our secure Amazon Web Services-based platform. Within your main user account, you can set up as many investor profiles as you wish. This allows investors to participate in offerings as either an individual, an IRA account, a trust, or other types of investment entities.
Browsing Investments
On our platform you’ll see a variety of investment opportunities; many investments feature regenerative, sustainable, or organic production methods. We showcase a plethora of opportunities, from hydroponic farms and grass-fed beef operations to the Sustainable Agriculture Opportunity Zone Fund, which invests to create a positive impact to the agricultural industry across economically disadvantaged regions of the U.S. and provide investors with tax-favorable risk-adjusted returns in non-correlated assets. Simply put, this fund’s investment objective is to achieve tax-advantaged capital appreciation in production agricultural projects that are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.
Time to Invest
Ready to invest? From the investment platform you can review key summary details of the offering, like the offering structure, project returns, and even get to know the sponsor’s team members. Depending on your accreditation status, you may have to request access to the offering documents, which is an easy email to us to ask for the files.
Once you have decided to move forward, you can choose to invest as an individual, or invest on behalf of an entity, such as a trust or self-directed IRA. You may be asked to provide information such as a Tax ID number, articles of incorporation, or an operating agreement to verify you are eligible to sign on behalf of this entity. During the investment process you will be able to choose how you want to fund your investment, either ACH transfer, wire transfer, bitcoin, or mailed in check. Funding by ACH ensures quickest clearing of your investment and will allow us to automatically deposit your distributions. After you select your funding method and digitally sign the Subscription Agreement, you are now an ag investor!
Receive Returns
Every offering will have a different structure and frequency of distributions. Some will pay out within a few months, while others may take more time before cash flow is available. Distributions may be quarterly, annual, or at the end of the investment period. As you receive monetary distributions, the platform will also build your personal earnings reports so you can keep track of all the dividends you are receiving from one or multiple offerings. We also like to keep investors informed of the progress of each deal, so you can expect quarterly operational updates and annual financial updates from each of the successful offerings. You will also receive an annual Form K-1 to submit with your income tax filing.
